WX EVENTS DOCUMENTED AT HOME: DOZENS ACTUAL STORM CHASE EVENTS: 0 LATEST EVENT: NONE; ON STANDBY
ABOUT ROOP AND STORMS My fascination with storms started when my interest in meteorology started. Especially since the movie Twister came out and watched and read more about severe weather and hurricanes, the more I actually wanted to experience these things myself. I have had a few close encounters with storms and most of them (since May 1998) have been documented on video. However, almost all of these have occurred at my old residence in Summerfield or in my new home in Gainesville. I never really, to date, actually chased anything. However, if a storm is not far away, if I have time available, and I know what is going on with the storm, and if it will be worth the drive I might peruse it. My education in the severe weather field ranges from just reading and watching educational videos to taking a SKYWARN spotter class in 03/2002. I am now a Advanced-level SKYWARN storm spotter. Any sightings of severe weather will be posted on the main blog at the following address: http://daweathaman-journalist.blogspot.com.
Advanced SKYWARN spotter certificate, dated July 2002. ETHICS Storm chasing also comes with some ethics. There is a long list of them, but most of it is basically common sense. For instance, when you are chasing or spotting, you are usually driving. Keep your eyes on the road and be courteous. Also to be courteous to property and others. Also not putting yourself or someone else in harms way is a big thing. My objective as a chaser is getting severe weather footage. However, as a spotter, my objective is getting warnings out to the public. When a severe weather report needs to be given to the NWS and/or local emergency management, I will do so ASAP. That is my mission and responsibility as a storm spotter. Also when I see someone in need of help after the storm, I will stop the car, put down the camera and help them out in any way I can (that includes calling for help via cell phone or ham radio).
